154 Officeplants, one of which is artificial, 2021, In-situ installation

In the in situ installation '154 Officeplants, one of which is artificial’, Sarah Van Marcke focuses on all the plants she could find in the offices, halls, boxes and meeting rooms of the Concertgebouw in Bruges. In an installation that is meant to strike a balance between a botanical oasis and a dystopian wasteland, all the office plants of the Concertgebouw are collected at one place. Since the start of the pandemic, the Concertgebouw has hardly been used, only one sign of life remains, the office plant. Intended as a touch of cheerfulness in a sterile environment, the neglected plants in the workplace now seem like an eerie symbol of the sudden way all employees had to leave their desks.

The installation is accompanied by Edgard Varèses ‘Poème électronique’, which is part of the Concertgebouw's permanent collection.
